Web Standards and Your Money

This article will not contain the technical reasons why web standards should be used (I’d rather not bore you to death) but will show, as a site/business owner, how they can save you time and money. If you would like a more technical explanation of web standards Max Design has an excellent article you should check out.
Money Savers

Smaller Page Size: Because of the way that sites designed to be web standards compliant are coded, they have a much smaller file size compared to their older table-based siblings. You ask, how does this help me? First, pages will load faster on average. Which keep your customers on your site were they can buy more of your product. Second, the smaller file size means less bandwidth consumption. Which, keeps more of your money were it belongs, in your pocket.
Separation of content and design: Websites built with web standards have their content and presentation separate by default, unlike table based sites which in most cases have their styles embedded in the page itself. What this separation allows is the fast and easy redesign of your site in the future. This saves you money on development fees down the road when it comes time to update your site.
It also makes your life easier with Google and the other search engines. If the code that supports your sites design is not mixed in with your content the web crawlers with be able to better understand what your site is about which results in better positioning in the search engine rankings.
Time Savers
Compatibility with future browsers: The ability to have your site stay forward compatible is a big deal. Many older not web standard designed sites have the big issue of breaking every time a new version of a browser comes out. By designing with standards you know that the browser manufacturers will continue to support your site design and you won’t have to run out and pay to fix your site every time a new browser hits the market.
Readable Code: This is pretty easy. When you have your design and content separate it makes the code behind your site much easier to understand and maintain. It makes the process of updating or changing site function more manageable when you can actually understand what the code means.

Welcome to our new home. We are extremely happy to have finally released this version of our site. With all of our client work it’s hard to work on our own identity sometimes. We’ve added a blog section to the new site so that we may post articles that will help our clients and anyone else who may stumble upon them.
It is our goal to provide content about how to increase search engine visibility, writing content to improve readability, why standards are important, and how as a business owner we can save you money, etc. So come back often and enjoy!
